Flight Environment X Announcement
We would like to let our customers know the current status of things with Flight Environment X.
The first news is that Aerosimulations, the original developers of Flight Environment X, have stopped trading as a company. Initially, this put Flight1 in a difficult position. However, Flight1 had discussions with Aerosimulations before they closed down, and the good news is that we were able to obtain the core source code to Flight Environment X (Flight1 is also now running the FEX server). All this allows Flight1 to take some initiatives to move the product forward.
All of this has been done under amicable conditions. Peter Wilding may still be able to assist in any texture advances. We will also be looking at expanding the product, which could include a weather plugin.
The conditions in which Aerosimulations folded could be attributed I believe much to the general economy of the Flight Sim industry. So much time and effort is required to go into FSX products, and it does take a sizable return in order to sustain this investment in time and expenses. But with Flight1 acquiring the code, we hope we can make some good forward progress. Do not expect major new features, etc, because FEX as it stands is really a great and ingenious product, with unlimited possibilities for various cloudscapes and other environments. But we do hope some of what has recently transpired will allow for a renewed effort in the Flight Environment franchise.
